Adrenal Cortisol Test

Cost ranges from $80-$100

Adrenal Cortisol Test

An adrenal cortisol test, conducted through saliva, is a non-invasive diagnostic tool used to measure the levels of cortisol in your body. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, located on top of your kidneys, and it plays a vital role in regulating various functions such as metabolism, immune response, and stress management.

How Does the Saliva Test Work?

The test involves collecting saliva samples at specific times throughout the day, typically morning, noon, afternoon, and before bedtime. This method is preferred because cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day, and saliva samples can accurately reflect these changes. Here’s a simple breakdown of the process:

1. Sample Collection: You will collect saliva samples using provided collection kits at designated times. It’s a simple and painless process that you can do at home or in our clinic.
2. Lab Analysis: The collected samples are then sent to a laboratory where they are analyzed to determine your cortisol levels at each time point.
3. Results: The results will provide a detailed picture of your cortisol rhythm and overall adrenal function.

Why is it Important?

Monitoring cortisol levels is crucial for identifying and managing conditions related to adrenal health. Abnormal cortisol levels can indicate various issues such as:

• Adrenal Fatigue: When the adrenal glands are overworked, leading to low cortisol levels and chronic fatigue.
• Cushing’s Syndrome: Characterized by excessively high cortisol levels, leading to weight gain, high blood pressure, and other symptoms.
• Stress Response: Helps in understanding how your body is managing and responding to stress.

Benefits of Saliva Testing

• Non-Invasive: Unlike blood tests, saliva testing is painless and can be done without needles.
• Convenient: You can collect samples in the comfort of your home.
• Accurate: Provides a comprehensive view of cortisol fluctuations throughout the day.

Understanding your cortisol levels through an adrenal cortisol test can help in diagnosing potential health issues and tailoring a treatment plan to improve your overall well-being. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us.
